How to Start a Fitness Routine in 2022

January 25, 2022

There are many sources out there to help you begin a fitness routine. If you complete a simple “Google” search - “How to start a fitness routine?” You will be flooded with a multitude of information, even from credible sources such as the Mayo Clinic.

The Mayo Clinic provides five steps on how to begin a fitness program with instructions under each heading:

1. Assess fitness level.

2. Design program.

3. Assemble equipment.

4. Start.

5. Monitor progress.

Those are great general steps but each can be complicated or overwhelming for the average person.

For example, most people don’t know how to assess fitness, design a program and monitor progress.

And while you can start a program with minimal equipment, where do you start?  What is the best equipment to maximize results? It can add up fairly quickly when you are trying to build a home gym and figuring out space requirements as well.

Let’s be clear: We want you to start a fitness program in 2022, and any activity is better than no activity. You can literally start with a short daily walk and bodyweight movements such as squats and push-ups. Increase the distance of the walk a little every day, and you’ll see some progress!

The Mayo Clinic list puts a lot of pressure on a person to research, plan, purchase, and assess. This can be time-consuming and overwhelming. We know this because many current clients don’t want to worry about programming or what they need to do in the gym each day.

We Can Help You Start Working Out!

This is where at NCFIT Iron Roots we help tackle this list for our members.

We assess your fitness level, take care of the programming and monitor your results. It’s what we do every day.

Our facility is also outfitted with various equipment that we utilize in our group classes, NCX and NCMETCON as well as personal training.

No need to figure it out on your own, we have been running our NCFIT programming for years to help reach your fitness goals whether that is losing weight, improving your appearance as well as building strength and endurance.

We promise to help eliminate frustration and give you a plan to help you accomplish your fitness goals. We’ll even tell you how you’ll know you’re making progress—and how to speed things up with the help of nutrition coaching.

The Mayo Clinic is 100 percent correct: “Starting a fitness program may be one of the best things you can do for your health.”

But you don’t have to figure it out alone. Let us help and speed the process up. Click HERE and book an appointment to talk with us!

Eating Slowly: The Simplest Way to Eat and Feel Better IntroductionWhen it comes to eating better, most folks worry about the little details...“If I don’t drink a protein shake after my workout, is it even worth exercising?”“Is keto really the best way to lose weight? Or should I be doing Paleo? Or what about the alkaline diet?!” Yet they eat over the kitchen sink. Or in their car. Or in a daze while in front of the TV.And who can blame them? We’ve been taught to think about what we eat, not how we eat. That’s too bad since… Eating slowly and mindfully can actually be an incredibly powerful habit for driving major transformation. Instead of having to figure out which foods to eat, in what frequency, and in what portions—all important factors, of course—eating slowly is the simplest way anyone can start eating and feeling better, immediately. Why Eating Slowly is ImportantTwo reasons:It takes about 20 minutes for your body's satiety signals to kick in.When you slow down, and really try to savor your meal, you tend to feel satisfied with less. Why People Struggle with This Habit What to do?  Practice at slow eating and know you won’t be perfect. That’s okay.  It’s also why it’s not a bad idea to spend a whole month on just this one habit.  To help you, try one of these tips. You can experiment with them for just one meal, or take on a full “30-day slow-eating challenge,” if you feel up to it.How to Practice Slow EatingTo help you, try one of these tips:Take a breath.Add one minute per meal.Do something between bites.Savor your food.Notice what affects eating speed.ConclusionTry to remember: Don't put food on your fork... if there's food in your mouth!

NCX - Built Stronger. Built Better. NCX combines daily classic strength training and conditioning into one highly-effective program. Each class will contain a strength component followed by a “metcon” workout. Strength training in NCX revolves around the core lifts: squats, presses, deadlifts, and an introduction to Olympic lifts. The goal of NCX is to tackle strength and conditioning with high levels of proficiency and appropriate intensity for the best results.
